Introduction to Cooking, Student Survival & Longer Courses
Background to ‘I Want to Cook More...’
One way or another we all find a way of putting a meal together for ourselves or our families. For many of us in this busy world where parents work full time and jobs are demanding, meal solutions are often shop bought and microwavable. Schools have taught cookery skills less and less over the last few years and there is a generation of mums who weren't able to teach their children to cook.
A jar of cook-in sauce or a supermarket take-away doesn't need to be the only answer.
This cookery course was developed for people who want to be able to cook more - maybe not every night, but people who want to be able to reduce or remove their dependence on the supermarkets ready-meals. Anyone looking to appreciate what goes into their food and to have greater self sufficiency will love this cookery course.
This cookery course is a good all round reminder of the basics, covered in a practical way that teaches you how to cook modern food with fresh ingredients. Friends, families, partners (and you) will love the difference this course can make to quality of the meals that you prepare and eat.
This course is also suitable for teenagers wanting to develop their interest in cooking and can be run on a private basis or for a small group.
The ‘I want to Cook more’ Course
The day begins at 10am with refreshments and a chance to meet with the others on the course. We begin with a description of the day and the dishes and techniques that we'll be covering.
Since numbers on each course are small there's plenty of opportunity to ask questions across the day but this is an ideal time to cover any specific questions you might have.
We have a short talk on health and safety and an orientation of the kitchen and facilities, before donning a lovely crisp apron and starting the cookery day.
Example dishes
Some of the Dishes we cover include:
- Soup making
- Bolognese Sauce and Lasagne, including making white and cheese sauces
- Sweet and Sour Chicken and egg fried rice
- Pastry and quiche making
- plus many more...with lots of ideas for variations
With this course we also cover knife and food preparation skills, planning ahead and cooking for the freezer.
All the dishes we prepare are eaten for lunch or eaten/sampled across the day.
The course usually ends around 4:45.
All the recipes come in a lovely presentation folder for you to take home.
The ‘I want to Cook more’ course is suitable for most skill levels, but please contact us to discuss any questions you may have.
